The British Orthodontic Society is the scientific and political organisation representing all spheres of orthodontic practice in the UK. It promotes the study and practice of orthodontics in the UK and Internationally in order to maintain standards in orthodontics, and to improve research and education in orthodontics. The Society advises The General Dental Council, Royal Colleges and other organisation on matters pertaining to the science and practice of orthodontics. This website can be a useful source of information.
The British Dental Association is the professional association for UK general dentists. There is very little about orthodontics in the website but it is informative for other branches of dentistry.
The object of the European Orthodontic Society is to advance all aspects of Orthodontics and its relations with the collateral arts and sciences for the public benefit. It seeks the furtherance of orthodontics amongst all branches of the dental profession working in private practice, hospitals and universities throughout Europe.
The General Dental Council is the regulatory authority for all dentists (and orthodontists) in the UK. You will find the names of all clinicians licensed to practise dentistry in the UK in its General Dental and Specialist Registers.
This American Association of Orthodontists is an excellent source of concise information about orthodontics and orthodontists. The AAO has similar aims to the BOS.
The purpose of the World Federation of Orthodontists is to advance the art and science of orthodontics and encourage high standards of orthodontics throughout the world.
